Tips for Buying Kids' Sports Shoes

Here are some tips from the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society:

  • Take your kids to the shoe store after their workout, when their feet are largest.

  • Try the shoes on with the socks normally worn during the workout.

  • Fit the shoe to the largest foot. Many people have one foot that is larger than the other; shoes should be fitted to the longer and wider foot.

  • The forefoot should not be crowded; be sure the toes can extend.

  • Be sure there's a snug fit around the heel of the shoe.

  • Feet expand when bearing weight, so have your kids stand when getting their feet measured.
